Your data
How we protect your data
A list of what you own, what you pay for and when your passport expires is personal. Vennie is built to collect as little as it can, and to keep your list with you, not with us.
Your list lives on your phone
Everything you track in Vennie (your food, bills, documents and the things around your home) is kept in a database on your phone. That database is encrypted, and the key to it is held by your phone’s secure hardware, so a copy of the file is unreadable without your phone.
In the beta, your list never leaves your phone. There is no sync and no backup yet, which also means that if your phone is lost or reset, your list starts again. The Download everything button on the Your data screen gives you a copy to keep.
What happens to the words you type
When you write “2kg sugar” or “rent 25k on the 1st”, Vennie sends those words to our server to work out what they mean. The server answers with a card for you to check, and then lets the words go. It does not store them or log them, and they are never sent to an outside AI company: the sorting runs on servers we run ourselves.
The card is saved on your phone, not on the server. Only you see it.
What we never keep
- The words you type. We read them to sort them, then let them go.
- ID, passport or account numbers. Vennie needs the expiry date to remind you, not the number, so it never asks.
- Photos of your documents. If you add one, it stays in Vennie’s private space on your phone. It is never uploaded, and it’s left out of your phone’s cloud backup.
- Your payment PINs, card numbers or bank details. Vennie records what a bill costs and when it’s due, never how to pay it.
What our server does keep
To run the app, our server keeps a small amount about your account and nothing about your list:
- Your account: your email address, how you sign in (Google or an email code) and when you joined.
- Sign-in records, stored only in a scrambled form, so you stay signed in safely.
- Counts: how many things you added on a day, or how many reminders you acted on. Numbers only, never what the things were. They help us see whether Vennie is useful.
- Corrections, only if you switch on “Help improve sorting”: that a card was moved from one place to another, for example from Kitchen to Cupboards. Never the words or the item, and never linked to you.
Reminders
Reminders are scheduled by your phone, from your phone’s own list. Our server doesn’t know what you’re reminded about, or when. If you prefer, Vennie can hide the details of Wallet and Drawer reminders on your lock screen until you unlock.
Leaving
You can download everything Vennie holds on your phone, as one file, at any time. And you can delete your account from the Your data screen: our server deletes your account, sign-in records and counts, and the app erases your list from the phone.
What we will never do
We don’t sell data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t share your information with anyone to market to you. Vennie earns its keep from people who choose to pay for it, later, not from your data.
When shared homes arrive
Shared homes, where the people in a household see the same list, are planned for a later version. The plan is for each shared home to be locked on your phones before anything is sent, so that only its members can read it, and not us. We’ll explain exactly how that works here before it launches.
